Introducing the Tuesday Tackle

The economy is bad. If you haven't noticed, please scoot over and let me join you under your rock. However, it is not the worst economy the United States has ever faced. Today, while flipping through the newspaper (gasp, my house still gets one of those!) I came across this article that sent smoke slithering out my ears. The headline, alone, was enough to have me scratching my head and wondering, "WHAT HAPPENED, AMERICA?"

I've nothing against Asia, but seriously when did Americans have to leave The Land of Hopes and Dreams just to find a job? Even more ridiculous, here in America, jobs are being sent overseas. Am I the only one finding this just a tad backwards and hypocritical?

Hopefully, everyone out there recognizes this statue. She is the lovely Lady Liberty, showing more of her arm than was decent way before it was cool.  On her base reads the following statue by Emma Lazarus:

The New Colossus
By Emma Lazarus, 1883
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

For centuries people from all over the world came to the United States to find freedom and opportunity. Have our opportunities run out? What has happened to our country and all that it has, not only stood for, but been created for?

In the next few weeks, I'm going to do The Tuesday Tackle. On Tuesdays, I am going to blog my opinion and views on some of the issues I see in today's world and compare them to other times in history. Stay tuned!
